Tragic Incident on Mount Rinjani: Malaysian Tourist Dies After Fall on Torean Trail

 

**Lombok, May 4, 2025** – A heartbreaking incident has struck the hiking community. A 57-year-old Malaysian tourist, identified by the initials **RAG**, tragically lost his life after falling into a ravine approximately 80 meters deep while trekking the **Torean Trail** of **Mount Rinjani**, one of Indonesia's most iconic volcanoes. 

 

### Chronology of the Incident

According to a report by the **TNGR Rescue Team** and statements from the guide and group members, the accident occurred on **Saturday, May 3, 2025**, at around 11:00 AM local time (WITA). The hiking group had stopped to refill their water bottles at **Banyu Urip Spring**, a common rest point along the Torean Trail. However, the victim continued on alone without taking a break.

Upon reaching a section equipped with **safety ropes**, the group leader attempted to assist the victim in navigating the steep path. Unfortunately, the victim declined help. He reportedly let go of the safety rope, lost his footing, and fell into the ravine to the right of the trail.

### Search and Rescue Operation

A joint rescue team launched an immediate operation upon receiving the report. The body was located and recovered from the bottom of the ravine by **10:30 AM on Sunday, May 4, 2025**. It was then transported via the Torean Trail and is now en route to **Bhayangkara Hospital in Mataram** for funeral arrangements.
